Don’t let the pretty pictures fool you on social media! Let me show you the reality of living in a fixer upper. Come see the before pictures and where we are now with our master bathroom remodel! Looking back at the before pictures of our bathroom still makes me queasy….I mean, carpet in the bathroom?! What were they thinking!!
Our ceilings are only 8 ft., so with this beautiful ceiling fan (insert eye roll here), you were guaranteed to knock your head if you were an inch over 6 ft. tall.
This is the view from where the closet is now. We had already removed the bi-fold doors that separated the two rooms when this picture was taken. The opening was 24″ and with the bi-fold doors open, it made it have a 20″ clearance. No freaking way anyone, of average size, could squeeze through there without turning side ways and side stepping. And that tub…solid cast iron. I tried everything known to man to get it clean, and nothing. I was not sad to see her go!
This was a built-in linen closet that protruded into the closet behind it. The entrance to the closet was in the master bedroom. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want my husband waking me up every morning scrounging around in the closet to gather his clothes for work. So we remedied that and removed the built-ins, drywall over the door in the bedroom, and made this the opening into the closet. BOOM! Problem solved. Happy wife, happy life. At least that is my husbands motto! HA!
Master Bathroom Remodel Progress
Here is the same view as the first before photo, when you walk in the door, from the master bedroom. As you can see we have reworked the cabinet placement to include a built-in vanity, under the window, instead of a sink. My husband hated not being able to see himself brush his teeth, so he requested to have a mirror above his sink.
The walk-in shower will be on the right and the toilet will be on the left. There is now plenty of clearance to pass through and requires no sideways shuffle! It is already so much lighter and brighter in here than the before pictures. I can’t wait to start adding the pretty tile!
The entrance to my master closet is now where the plastic drop cloth is hanging.
Our next step in the remodel, is to have the plumber come out and rework the plumbing for the shower and sinks. The house is a 1967 ranch style home and has cast iron plumbing, so we rented a hammer drill and chiseled out the slab to make way for the new plumbing. Can I tell you how excited I am to be able to use the potty in the middle of the night AND be able to wash my hands after?!
If you follow me on Instagram and/or Facebook, you will see that my husband and I built a hall tree where a coat closet used to be. Well, this is that coat closet!! We just sealed it up in our entryway and made a new opening into our bathroom…now we have a linen closet with a ton of storage for our towels and dirty clothes hamper! That is one thing that is a bummer about a lot of older homes, is the lack of storage.
That is it folks! This is where we are in our master bathroom remodel. Next week the plumber comes and then the fun can really begin! I am ready to get the ball rolling and start adding all the pretty finishes, which I can’t wait to share with you. So stay tuned!
